CSCS delivers a scheme for industry that confirms individuals working in the built environment have the necessary competence. The Scheme keeps a database of those working in construction that achieve, or can demonstrate they have already attained an agreed level of occupational competence.
For individuals, having a CSCS card shows employers that you are competent to do your job.
Anyone working or visiting a construction site is required by the client or contractor to show their CSCS card and that it’s appropriate for the job they undertake. Without a relevant CSCS card access to construction sites may be denied.
CSCS cards list the holder’s qualifications and are valid for one, three or five years. They are based on the S/NVQ system and you must pass the CITB Construction Skills Health, Safety and Environment Test to apply for a CSCS card as well as have a level 2 NVQ for skilled worker card.
